Betty's 5 tips to contouring perfection

Betty is the queen of contouring, so she thought she would share with you her top 5 tips to perfecting beautiful bronzed contouring.

Why is contouring so important?  Because it helps bring out your best facial features and hide your not so favourite features.  Contouring gives you an amazing glow and makes your face appear flawless and healthy.  Betty is here to help you master this not so tricky summer skin trend:

1. Master one or two tricks.... avoid over complicating it!  There are a million youtube videos about contouring, all with different techniques, products and tips so it's hard to know what the best method is.  Betty's advice is just focus on one trick - light and dark shading.  Once you perfect your base contour guide then you can try to master techniques like slimming your nose or disguising a double chin.  Your light areas should be under your eyes, between your eyebrows and a dash on your chin. The dark areas should be under your cheek bones and your temples.

2.  Always make sure you do your makeup in natural light when possible.  Artificial light is dim and often makes it hard to see exactly what you are doing with light and shade - you don't want to step out of your house looking like a clown now darling.  Try to do your make-up near a window, or if it is dark out side, use a hand mirror and face your head towards a ceiling light for the brightest possible light.  Always make sure your contouring lines are well blended.

3.  Buy the right products.  You want to go for good quality products that won't cake on your face.  Betty loves the Smashbox contouring set from Mecca but feel free to experiment with powders and cream contouring products to see which ones work best with your skin tone and texture.

4.  Don't go overboard - tone it down in winter.  It's easy to get carried away with your artistic flare when getting ready for a night on the town, just keep in mind that a dark St. Tropez glow might look slightly ridiculous in the middle of winter.  So just be mindful of Jenny-from-the-block syndrome in the cooler months.

5.  Use blush for a natural effect.  Once you have a healthy glow which is well blended into your foundation, touch it up with a sweep of peachy pink blush for a natural effect, it's amazing the difference it will make to your overall look.
