A fake tan will never turn out perfect without the products you use before and after you apply your tan. Dry spots, orange elbows, streaks and patchy hands - Betty has learnt the hard way. Betty aims to give you her best tips and tricks to achieve that gorgeous fake tan that we all want and as a fake tan is not just about the fake tan you use, here are Betty's favorite product to use before and after your tan to achieve that gorgeous golden glow.
1. Betty likes to get off to a good start and that means treating herself to a MUD bath the night before she is planning to fake tan. MUD is an amazing detox bath and body mask product with all natural ingredients that will improve your skin, detox your body and relax your mind. Perfect the night before a fake tan, or any other time you want to pamper yourself for that matter. Betty has never slept as good as after a MUD bath, so if you are feeling a bit tired and in need of a perfect night's sleep, MUD is just what you need.
2. Scrubbing away dead skin cells to assure your fake tan is streak free and natural is a crucial part for anyone in the fake tan game. Avoid oil based exfoliators as they will make a streak free application almost impossible. Betty likes to keep it simple and prefers to just use a hemp mitt or body brush to dry brush her skin before jumping in the shower. This will remove dead skin cells and help stimulate blood circulation in your body. Betty loves The Body Shop's hemp mitt and the cactus brush. Both are gentle enough to use every day and will leave your skin soft and bright.
3. Vaseline - what can Betty say? There is nothing luxurious or beautiful about this product, but oh boy how good is it for avoiding nasty fake tan build ups on the drier spots on your body. Simply apply a small amount to your ankles, knees, elbows, wrists and hands to avoid excess tan that will make them orange. Lifesaver!
4. After you have applied your fake tan (and it looks perfect of course!) you want to maintain looking beautiful and natural for as long as possible. A good, fragrance free moisturizer is the key here. Alcohol and oils tend to make fake tan patchy, so be sure to avoid a moisturizer containing these two things. Using a moisturizer that contains gradual fake tan will also make your fake tan last longer. Betty loves Bondi Sand's Gradual Tanning Milk with SPF15. It is enriched with antioxidants, aloe vera and vitamin E and will leave your skin feeling silky soft and with a golden glow all year around.
