Betty's 5 tips to contouring perfection

Betty is the queen of contouring, so she thought she would share with you her top 5 tips to perfecting beautiful bronzed contouring.

Why is contouring so important?  Because it helps bring out your best facial features and hide your not so favourite features.  Contouring gives you an amazing glow and makes your face appear flawless and healthy.  Betty is here to help you master this not so tricky summer skin trend:

1. Master one or two tricks.... avoid over complicating it!  There are a million youtube videos about contouring, all with different techniques, products and tips so it's hard to know what the best method is.  Betty's advice is just focus on one trick - light and dark shading.  Once you perfect your base contour guide then you can try to master techniques like slimming your nose or disguising a double chin.  Your light areas should be under your eyes, between your eyebrows and a dash on your chin. The dark areas should be under your cheek bones and your temples.

2.  Always make sure you do your makeup in natural light when possible.  Artificial light is dim and often makes it hard to see exactly what you are doing with light and shade - you don't want to step out of your house looking like a clown now darling.  Try to do your make-up near a window, or if it is dark out side, use a hand mirror and face your head towards a ceiling light for the brightest possible light.  Always make sure your contouring lines are well blended.

3.  Buy the right products.  You want to go for good quality products that won't cake on your face.  Betty loves the Smashbox contouring set from Mecca but feel free to experiment with powders and cream contouring products to see which ones work best with your skin tone and texture.

4.  Don't go overboard - tone it down in winter.  It's easy to get carried away with your artistic flare when getting ready for a night on the town, just keep in mind that a dark St. Tropez glow might look slightly ridiculous in the middle of winter.  So just be mindful of Jenny-from-the-block syndrome in the cooler months.

5.  Use blush for a natural effect.  Once you have a healthy glow which is well blended into your foundation, touch it up with a sweep of peachy pink blush for a natural effect, it's amazing the difference it will make to your overall look.

Party Trick of the Year: Sally Hansen AirBrush Legs

Betty is a girly girl. She loves to dress up and feel like a million dollars. Nude colored stockings on the other hand, is not Betty's thing and if you are anything like Betty, you'll know that after months of cold and grey weather, your skin is in desperate need of some TLC before they are ready to brave to be bare. That is where this awesome party trick comes in.

Sally Hansen's Airbrush Legs is a spray can of instant fake tan magic that works almost like a foundation for your legs. It evens out your skin tone and covers tiny blood vessels, bumps etc. Easy to spray on and waterproof, this product is perfect for when you're in need of a quick fix. Your legs will look amazing and silky without looking too shiny and without the discomfort of wearing stockings.

The product dries fast, which means you can spray your legs ready (and other body parts if you like) right before you get dressed. The product can stain your clothes, so avoid wearing your favorite white ensembles. Should you be so unlucky, wash your clothes in the washing machine and the stains should come off.

Betty prefers to spray the product directly on her body and not in her hands first as the instructions suggest. She then uses her fingers to gently rub away any streaks that may occur. Make sure to spray at the recommended distance as this will also help avoid streaks. When your fun night is over hit the showers and wash the product off using gentle soap and hot water. It's as simple (and perfect!) as that.

Check out Sally Hansen's website to buy online or check out where you can find it in store.

The 4 Beauty Products Betty and Her Fake Tan Can't Live Without

A fake tan will never turn out perfect without the products you use before and after you apply your tan. Dry spots, orange elbows, streaks and patchy hands - Betty has learnt the hard way. Betty aims to give you her best tips and tricks to achieve that gorgeous fake tan that we all want and as a fake tan is not just about the fake tan you use, here are Betty's favorite product to use before and after your tan to achieve that gorgeous golden glow.

1. Betty likes to get off to a good start and that means treating herself to a MUD bath the night before she is planning to fake tan. MUD is an amazing detox bath and body mask product with all natural ingredients that will improve your skin, detox your body and relax your mind. Perfect the night before a fake tan, or any other time you want to pamper yourself for that matter. Betty has never slept as good as after a MUD bath, so if you are feeling a bit tired and in need of a perfect night's sleep, MUD is just what you need.

2.  Scrubbing away dead skin cells to assure your fake tan is streak free and natural is a crucial part for anyone in the fake tan game. Avoid oil based exfoliators as they will make a streak free application almost impossible. Betty likes to keep it simple and prefers to just use a hemp mitt or body brush to dry brush her skin before jumping in the shower. This will remove dead skin cells and help stimulate blood circulation in your body. Betty loves The Body Shop's hemp mitt and the cactus brush. Both are gentle enough to use every day and will leave your skin soft and bright.

3. Vaseline - what can Betty say? There is nothing luxurious or beautiful about this product, but oh boy how good is it for avoiding nasty fake tan build ups on the drier spots on your body. Simply apply a small amount to your ankles, knees, elbows, wrists and hands to avoid excess tan that will make them orange. Lifesaver!

4. After you have applied your fake tan (and it looks perfect of course!) you want to maintain looking beautiful and natural for as long as possible. A good, fragrance free moisturizer is the key here. Alcohol and oils tend to make fake tan patchy, so be sure to avoid a moisturizer containing these two things. Using a moisturizer that contains gradual fake tan will also make your fake tan last longer. Betty loves Bondi Sand's Gradual Tanning Milk with SPF15. It is enriched with antioxidants, aloe vera and vitamin E and will leave your skin feeling silky soft and with a golden glow all year around.

Why natural fake tan is taking the world by storm: introducing Eco Coco

In a world where juicing kale has become a 'thing' it's no wonder that girls (and guys) are paying attention to what they put in their mouth and on their skin. Now Betty is a believer that all fake tan is good fake tan, however not all fake tans are created equal. Taking the world by storm is one of Betty's favs - Eco Coco Tan.

So what's so special about Eco Coco? Well for starters it's made from the most pure, revolutionary, certified organic ingredients including organic coconut oil, chamomile extract, aloe extract, acai extract and goji berry. Sound like a smoothie bowl recipe right?

Boasting a beautiful summer glow, Eco Coco's coveted recipe actually works, unlike other organic fake tans on the market. Judging by the extensive reviews on their website it's clear that going 'eco' has never been so fashionable.

The beauty of Eco Coco is that the coconut oil helps lock in moisture, leaving you soft and supple, unlike other fake tan product which generally dry your skin out. Perfect for all skin types, Eco Coco even has anti-aging properties, not that a lady ever shares her age. Best of all, Eco Coco proud of their cruelty free ethos, test on babes not bunnies!

With a lusty worthy Instagram account of beautifully curated imagery, Eco Coco is definitely worth a look, you can check them out here and purchase Eco Coco here.
